Brian the Brain

This is a great idea if you’ve got kids who get bored doing their homework. It’s also a great parent aide (particularly if you get asked those tricky questions like “how high is the sky?” or “when was Cleopatra born?”, or “how do you spell ‘prestidigitation’?”) As Brian has stored within his animatronic brain The Concise Encyclopedia from Britannica®, a dictionary and also a world history timeline, you should be able to ask him virtually anything and he should know.

Quake triggers tsunami in Indonesia

JAKARTA, Indonesia - A massive earthquake struck Indonesia on Wednesday, triggering a tsunami in the town of Padang and warnings for much of the Indian Ocean region, authorities said. The quake caused tall buildings to sway in at least four countries.

A wave of up to 9 feet was reported to have hit Padang about 20 minutes after the quake, said Suhardjono, an official with Indonesia's meteorological agency, who goes by only one name.

A local official told Indonesian radio that at least one person was killed and dozens were injured in the earthquake.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center also reported that a small tsunami hit Padang.

Erap guilty of plunder; acquitted of perjury

The Sandiganbayan Special Division on Wednesday found former president Joseph Estrada guilty beyond reasonable doubt for the crime of plunder but acquitted him for the lesser crime of perjury.

Winding up a six-year trial that the 70-year-old had repeatedly insisted was politically motivated, the anti-graft court ruled that Estrada was guilty of plundering billions of pesos in tobacco excise tax kickbacks and bribes and sentenced him to reclusion perpetua.

"Accordingly accused former president Joseph Estrada is hereby sentenced to suffer the penalty of reclusion perpetua and accessory penalties of civil interdiction during the period of sentence and perpetual absolute disqualification," the decision read.

It added: "The period within accused former president Joseph Ejercito Estrada has been under detention shall be credited to him in full as long as he agrees voluntarily in writing to abide by the same disciplinary rules imposed upon convicted prisoners."

The anti-graft court, however, acquitted Estrada's co-accused in the plunder case including his son, Sen. Jose "Jinggoy" Estrada, and lawyer Edward Serapio.

The court confiscated more than P700 million in Estrada's assets including a foundation set up by the former president for Muslim youth scholars, the controversial "Jose Velarde" account that allegedly contained millions of pesos in illegal gambling bribes and the now famous Boracay mansion in New Manila, Quezon City.

Disconnected from the Internet for Downloading Too MuchComcast restricts the Internet access for some users

Comcast, one of the largest ISPs in the US, took the decision to restrict the Internet access for some of its customers because they download too much. Although it might sound a little bit shocking nowadays that you can't download as much as you want, the company disconnected the users as they
were slowing down the entire network and increased the latency and the loading times for all the other users. AFP reported that in order to get a notification from the parent company you have to download 1,000 songs or four films from the Internet. However, every consumer has 30 days at disposal to resolve the matter and to avoid the disconnection.
